Nvidia launches GeForce 8800 Ultra

Graphic card manufacturer Nvidia has launched their latest and most powerful graphic card product named GeForce 8800 Ultra.

The company claims that 8800 Ultra will perform 10-15 percent faster than the 8800 GTX. 8800 GTX was the company’s top end product till now.

GeForce 8800 Ultra comes loaded with 768 MB of DDR3 memory and is DX10 compatible. This is good news for the interested games considering a couple of DirectX 10 games are arriving in the market including Crysis, Age of Conan or the Flight Simulator X update.

Nvidia added that the GeForce 8800 sports 128 unified shader pipelines. The memory on the card runs at 1080 MHz while the card itself has been overclocked from 575 MHz to 612 MHz.

Ujesh Desai, general manager of desktop GPUs at Nvidia had some more information: “The definitive gaming platform is built around the fastest components available and today there is no disputing those components include the GeForce 8800 Ultra GPU and an Nvidia nForce 680i SLI-ready motherboard.”

He added: “The graphics industry evolves extremely quickly and it is quite an achievement when you can leapfrog your own performance milestones in succession like we have done with these GeForce 8 Series GPUs.”

The card is however awfully expensive at €699 (£477).
