Soul Calibur Legends coming to Nintendo Wii

Namco Bandai has announced that they are bringing the latest game in the Soul Calibur fighting series to Nintendo Wii.

This new game would be exclusively launched for the Nintendo Wii gaming platform. The developers said that Soul Calibur Legends would use the motion sensitive Wii controller and nun chuck.

They promise that the game would provide the most sophisticated fighting game on the console to date.

Incidentally, this new gaming title would be the first Soul Calibur title since Namco merged with Bandai in 2005. This makes it the first version to be developed for the next generation gaming consoles.

They aim to make this upcoming gaming title available by the end of the year.

I absolutely loved Soul Caliber 2 for the Dreamcast, which turned out to be one of the best looking games for the system. I was let down though by Soul Caliber 3. It seems instead of focusing on a better combo system they pretty much just re-released Soul Caliber 2 to the PS2/Xbox/GC. Not only was there no noticeable changes from SC2 other than a couple higher rez textures and one exclusive character, but SC3 was developed for the lowest specs in mind. This meant Xbox and GC owners had to put up with the PS2 “optimized” (aka gross looking) graphics.

What makes me hesitant about SC4:Legends is that it is not a multiplatform title but a Wii exclusive. No offense, but graphically Wii titles have so far been up to par with GC titles. This hints to me that perhaps Namco isn’t even trying to improve their game to compete with fighting games such as Tekken, DOA, etc., but just happy to re-re-release another version of their Soul Caliber fighting series on the cheaper and lowest spec system. Except this time you can wave your controller around…hardly anything for me to get excited about. I like the Wii (WE NEED ONLINE PLAY ALREADY!) but right now my games of choice are RS:Vegas and Halo 3 Beta.
