Sony aiming to ship 11 million Playstation 3 units this year
Japanese videogame console maker Sony has revealed that they have set themselves a target of shipping 11 million Playstation 3s worldwide this year.
Sony would have to work hard to achieve this goal as both Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360 are doing pretty well against the Playstation 3 in the market.
The company has already shipped around 5.5 million PS3 consoles in the year to March. Sony faced massive problems with the deliveries in the initial months due to production problems with its Blu-Ray drive which comes preloaded on the Playstation 3 console.
Sony chief financial officer Nobuyuki Oneda said in a statement: “Although it seems to be difficult to fully turn around the performance at the game division in the current fiscal year, increased sales of the PS3 should help narrow losses here notably.”
The company admitted that Nintendo has been performing exceptionally well and is eating into their market share.
Sony is also scheduled to launch some new titles for the PS3 including “Hot Shots Golf 5″ and “The Eye of Judgment” this year.
