Ubisoft: Sony’s console lead could weaken if prices are not reduced
Ubisoft Entertainment’s chief executive Yves Guillemot has said in a statement that he believes that Sony could lose its dominating position in the game console market with its new Playstation 3 as they are just not selling enough units in the market.
He suggests that the company needs to lower the prices of its high priced console to lure more users into buying the console.
Currently, Sony is selling less units of Playstation 3 compared to both Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360.
He said: “For sure Sony will have a different market share … lower than before. They have to decrease the price quite significantly.”
Price tag of the console is very significant. We can see that from the sales of the Sony’s earlier generation PS2 gaming console which is still selling in huge numbers at its current price tag of USD 130. This is half the price of the Nintendo Wii which is the cheapest current generation gaming console.
Guillemot added in his statement that they are working on an exclusive PS3 title in Europe but declined to reveal the name.

Dear Yves,
please, just release G.R.A.W.2 & Vegas for the PS3 and keep your console pricing thoughts to yourself. You worry about the games and let Sony worry about the pricing of their system. Have some faith in the king of game consoles. Developers should worry about developing great games. That’s why they are DEVELPOERS. All this price-lowering talk sounds eerily familiar… Right! The same comments were made about the PS2 almost a decade ago and look were we are now. What UBI should be doing is developing a Splinter Cell the size of Mt. Everest in 1080p 7.1. We all know PS3 can damn well handle it and then some.
