Sony now sued for their Blu-Ray technology
Sony has been sued by the California based company named Target Technology over their Blu-Ray technology which powers their Playstation 3 gaming console.
Target Technology is seeking damages for alleged patent violations related to Sony’s Blu-ray technology.
Incidentally, Sony was also sued for the rumble functions present in their Dual Shock controllers. The company ended up paying $97 million in damages and interest to Immersion.
This new lawsuit has been filed against Sony Computer Entertainment America, Sony Pictures and Sony DADC. Target Technology is claiming that the Blu-Ray technology products infringe on a patent Target owns for reflective-layer materials in optical discs.
They had originally filed the patent in 2004 and were granted in March of 2006.
They are seeking from the court a permanent injunction to prevent Sony from violating Target patent rights in the future. They are also seeking damages, with interest.
Looks like the bad days for Sony are not ending yet. Nintendo is killing them in the videogame console market with their Wii and Apple is killing them in the portable media player segment.
