Nintendo hoping to sell 35 million Wii in US by 2012
Japanese videogame console maker Nintendo has made a smashing comeback with the launch of the Wii gaming console in the market.
Wii has become the fastest selling next generation gaming console in the market and is selling at a faster pace than both Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3.
Nintendo has now said that they are projecting sales of around 35 million Wii gaming console in the US market by the year 2012.
They have already sold more than 2.5 million of the devices in the U.S.
Sony dominates the market with sales of more than 38.2 million units of their older generation Sony Playstation 2 in the US market.
Nintendo head of marketing George Harrison was quoted as saying in the media: “Demand is much greater than we anticipated. A year ago no one thought we would be in this position.”
He added: “We’re starting to see in the performance of the PS3 and Xbox 360 that that’s not necessarily motivating the market the way it used to. So we’re going to start work on future technology only when we believe it’s necessary.”
Wii has become a favorite with its innovative game play and intuitive controls.
