Blu-Ray players to get cheaper. Would PS3 be next?

Sony has said in a statement that they can now manufacture Blu-Ray players at a cheaper cost. This could result in cheaper players arriving in the market in the coming months.

However, this could also result in a situation where Sony drops the price tag of their Playstation 3 gaming console which comes loaded with a Blu-Ray drive.

Sony needs to take steps to improve the sales of the PS3 console which is performing badly when compared to sales of rival consoles like Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360.

Arvind Bhatia, an analyst with Sterne Agee & Leach Inc. had this to say about the Sony’s statement: “If the cost of Blu-ray is coming down, you can drop the price of anything with Blu-ray in it.”

Sony further announced that they would begin selling a new version of its Blu-ray video disc player later this week for $500. They had earlier quoted the price of this player at around $600.

analysts have been saying that Sony needs to drastically cut the price of their PS3 console to make sure it survives the competition. Sony is making huge losses in their gaming division. They need the PS3 to sell or they would be in big trouble.
