Microsoft Xbox 360 to take on Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Revolution

Microsoft would be launching their next generation gaming console Xbox 360 before its competition. This would give them a head start against the upcoming competition from Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Revolution. They have also done their marketing right this time. They collaborated with MTV to do a special show on their youth channel enabling them to target their audience.

The launching ceremony was presented by Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood. The show featured an Irish band, Snow Patrol, the Killers, and actress Scarlett Johansson. This goes on to show how serious Microsoft is as a software company to go ahead and market their products to the today’s generation.

The next generation Xbox is expected to be more than just a gaming machine. In fact, it is being presented as an entertainment hub, with more than one teraflop of system-floating point performance, a three-core PowerPC-based CPU for the most-advanced artificial intelligence and physics processing, a custom ATI graphics processor, and more than 512 MB of memory for the ultimate visual experience.

And Microsoft plans to launch it before the end of the year. This is much before any of its competition can launch their products. And with Sony busy with delivering their PSP consoles to the European market, they have more logistical problems at their end. They are expected to release details about PlayStation 3 at the upcoming E3 Expo. The third version of this top-selling video game console is expected to come with the new “Cell” microprocessor developed with International Business Machines Corp. and Toshiba Corp.

Sony PlayStation 3 is also expected to support the next generation DVDs which are being developed by Sony Corporation. Nintendo on the other hand has high expectations from their upcoming Revolution platform. However, their product will be more of a gaming product than a complete entertainment hub as Microsoft and Sony are planning to do with their consoles. This ends their capacity to challenge these upcoming products. We will see what emerges at the E3 Expo. Does Sony have something up their sleeves to surprise Microsoft? We will have to wait.

By the time Sony brings out their PS3, Microsoft will have already eaten Sony’s lunch for good.

well even though xbox is going to be realease close to a year before the ps3, i am quite confident most gamers which already enjoy playstation will wait that extra year and purchase a trully revolutionary gaming system.

Playstation 3 will be the best of all and will be worth the wait. They don’t rush it and Sony has more experience. Go PS3!!!

How dare you insult the Revolution. Its a main player in this generation. Its either going to flop, or kick some serious butt. It is going to play DVDs, it may not be “the ultimate media player” but its a video-game system. The X-Box 360 is going straight after the PS3. And I think that Sony has spent too many sleepless nights making up excuses for their PSP’s defects to be building the PS3, while M$ has been working like mad on their system. So, do us all a favor, and stop worshiping Sony.

Let’s see what happens. Revolution is going to be great. Nintendo isn’t like Microsoft and Sony to have Super Graphics and all that shit. They make you go into the game instead of playing it. Let’s see what they have for us in E3. Go Revolution and PS3!!!

When will you people learn….The Dreamcast is, and will always be, the ultimate GAMERS console. Quit sucking up to the faceless suits who run Microsoft and Sony. They are looking to take over the world. Fight the Power!

1st off, what tom said has to be the stupidest thing i have ever heard. but what i wanted to say is that the real battle is going to be between ps3 and xbox 360. nintendo is in the past now. but i think that the ps3 will be better then the xbox…proof is that the ps2 came out 3 years before the 1st xbox and was and still is a big competition for the best console. next off, nintendo is always going into the usless deteails that make it “LOOK” cool, like the game cube with its tiny discs, that made it so you can watch DVD’s and then the super complicated controler that isnt that great….as you might be able to tell, i am a microsoft and sony fan and not nintendo

Sony has always made “fragile” consoles. The PS One, PS2 and PSP are all shotty hardware. I have nothing against Sony but their consoles breakdown more often than Dick Vermeil. Apparently Microsoft is looking further than Sony, Sony is trying to be a graphic powerhouse, but to what consequence? I think Microsoft has the right mind set, expand their market, make a complete console, plus their hardware has proven to be very reliable. May the best console win!

will the ps3 have improved internet gaming facilities … so match xbox live?

i am behind the ps3 .. but as mentioned ina previous post, the pressure is on the developers .. will; this inhibit the potential for ps3 gaming titles?

Xbox will be the better of the two, it’s the first console that doesn’t lack anything. 360 will be that much better than Playstation 3 (great Spiderman 2 font they’ve used on the first images of it btw) with the online experience Microsoft has gained with Live and the overall strength of titles like Halo. There would only be one way to actually settle this debate is for an interface to exist between the two consoles so that the two leigions of fans could duke it out to the bitter end…

THE xbox 360 will definitely beat the ps3. The xbox can fuction as wayy more than just a regular ideo game system, halo 3 will come out same time as ps3, and the specs are pretty good too.

As for the Nintendo Revolution, that’s not even a video game system. That’s a toy for two year olds.

    GO XBOX 360!!!

Nintendo Revolution (not Evolution) may not have the hype that PS3 will have or Xbox 360, but don’t forget that Sony and Mone.. I mean Microsoft are big ELECTRONICS companies, which is why Nintendo doesn’t win in the sales. But it does win in terms of quality. Nintendo are a games company- lets not forget Japanese, which is why they also don’t get the hype over in America, as well as here in Britain, because Sony and Microsoft are big american companies, and fair play to them. I don’t even think Nintendo are looking to WIN in the market sales, just to provide for the true gamer, and not someone who goes along with Sony and Microsoft because of advertising.

This brings me to another point, although it doesn’t necessarily apply to the PS2, as they have the lowest quality graphics. When you see adverts (commercials) for PS2 and Xbox on TV, all you are shown is the “graphic quality” and not actually the quality of the game itself, which is what Nintendo are all about. Take Midnight Club 3, recently released over here in the UK. The adverts showed pretty lights and flashy cars, but how does that tell you what the game is actually like? If someone sees that advert, they may think that it looks good, but actually it’s your standard 3rd Party Racer that is just another rip-off of Gran Turismo (which by the way has also gone stale). But by now, they’ve already forked out £40 (or however much it is in dollars) and taken it home, only to be disappointed.

It is this reason why Nintendo excel. They put gameplay on the front. Nintendo make their own games, while the other two use third party’s, such as Namco, Activision and EA. Nintendo can take their time deciding what they make, instead of Sony and Microsoft buying what looks the coolest. Not only that, but they don’t keep making re-makes of the same game with a Number slapped onto the end. I thought Jak and Daxter was a really clever, impressive game on the PS2, but then they ruined it by adding guns and cars, trying to sell it off as GTA in Jak 2 AND 3. Why not make new stuff, finding different ways of playing games, instead of another weak story, with the same old controller pad again. Since it’s release, the Gamecube has seen Bongo’s, GBA link cables, Arcade style joysticks and even a SWORD in Japan, to change the way we play our games and offer us new experiences. We shouldn’t need purely better graphics than the previous version of a game to impress us. What about Mario Kart: Double Dash!! ? Two characters to one Kart? GENIOUS! And it’s the most fun you could get out of a racer.

And you will never ever see a Super Smash Brothers Melee on the PS and Xbox, because again, they only buy from third parties, and so Nintendo’s classics like Mario, Zelda, Samus and Fox will be remembered forever, while give it 5 years and no-one will know the name Sam Fisher.

    All Heil Nintendo
Nin-ten-do: Leave it up to heaven.

Ok now children settle down… We all know the PS3 is gonna be one heck of a console. Nevertheless, it seems like it wont be easy to take on the Xbox 360. All these PS3 fanatics who say theyll wait as long as it takes are not looking at the real picture. Being succesful not only consists of having something good to offer but also knowing how to market it. Xbox is a step ahead on this. It will be up for grabs 4 months before PS3, right before the holidays. Xbox is more user friendly. Xbox has a superior online gaming system. The technological advances on both are equally impressive. Ok some might lean a little more onto the PS3, but have you guys compared aethetics? The Xbox is eye candy. I could look at that thing and blow kisses at it the whole weekend long…Ok now im just Blabbing… Xbox rules!!!

The winner will be the one that has the most software support. Yeah, the hardware does matter to a certain degree, but if you, as a developer, cannot work with the tools at hand. Then you cannot make any profit nor dominate the market. YOu mention, nintendo, yeah, they are well known for their Mario and Zelda, but really, the kids playing them have grown up. Xbox has your Halo and Gotham, with a few decent games. Then you compare that to the library of Sony. Don’t get me started on the Final Fantasies that constantly rocks, God of War, DMC, and of course MGS!!! etcc..that are exclusive for sony that makes them dominant. In the end, us gamers will be the winner…WITH SONY!

Halo 2 could of been way better my opinion. Also PS2 had free online from what I here and because of that if you go online you won’t be playing super duper hardcore gamers (that is what you go agasint 80 % of the time on xbox live, because only the best are willing to pay) Not to mention non mod capabilities, althouhg from what I here you will be able to dowload mods with the Xbox 360, and listen to whatever music you want whenever you want with whatever you want, with the button in the midle of the controller, althoguh the PS3 you can get the equivelatn of a LAN party with oen system, it wil support two HDTV at once and up to 7 wireless controllers, (and there will stil be ports for poeple with want wired controlers if I am correct, so that you can get that nice even 8 player on two TV game, and of course if you want you can just play four player on two different TVs.) Although both companies are royaly messing over their controller. The PS3 controller is the most retarded controller in history (looks and comfort) whiel the xbox 360 their making it ‘look’ smoother, when really it will be less comfortable the way they are ’smoothing it out’ and also they movedhte black and white buttons as how PS2 had two triggers on each side (which is retarded and unconfortable for how a xbox controller is shaped, besides being a rip off. Although since Xbox 360 is backwards compatible I will be seeing if My usb adapter will allow an orignal xbox controller to work with it.)

One of my friends never had the xbx, PS2, gamecuem generation systems but is going for the nintendo revolution because it is backwards compatible (like everythign else) but he is a classic game freak adn teh nintendo revolution allows you do to download any game ever made from original nintendo to nintendo 64 (so combined with backwards compatability that means you can player every single game ever made for any Nintendo console, besides the new ones made for it) I still have to find a picture for their controller, but I will admit the main competition is between Sony and Microsoft, but Nintendo is not necessarily being shut out completely, it will simply just not do well because of how the game cube went compared to the other two systems.

I my self am going to wait until all 3 systems come out and then determine which one I will buy (and hopefully PS3 will be smart by the time I make my decision and get some stinky controllers, who knows maybe the non brand name companies will actauly score on making PS 3 controllers)

I have to say… I am a Xbox man…but Sony does have a good thing going in the playstation. I think that alot of it well come down to loyalties, honestly. Even though the Revolution is not gonna have as much capablities as the other two compeditors(xbox 360 and PS3), it has such a large following that will buy anything nintendo. so I believe it eventually all comes down to preferance… honestly I hope to buy all of them eventually…but xbox is first :-D

Well both systems Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 is a very tough competition. Overall in my opinion and many other editors the Playstation 3 will most likely take over the Playstation 3 graphic wise and we will be looking forward for the amazing games upcoming for the Playstation 3 ( Killzone). Sony has never let down with their products. The PSP which sold way above a million units and spoiled the Nitendo DS. Even though the Playstation 3 has a long ways to come its worth the wait.

The ps3 will have better graphics and higher numbers to compare, the xbox 360 will have the free online experience along with endless accessories and options for the user. I for one wish there was a system that had the graphics and numbers as the ps3 along with the options and accessories with the xbox 360.

It doesn’t matter that the PS3 and Xbox 360 are “Entertainment Systems” rather than gaming consoles. The game always has been and always will be about the GAMING. Microsoft can flash it’s money around as much as it wants, but in the end, the company that has always been there since the NES will be the one to deliver the ultimate gaming experience. Microsoft can just get off of the bandwagon. It doesn’t belong in the gaming industry.

Killzone was a CGI demo, also, it’s been proven that the Microsoft Xbox 360 will have better graphics. Plus with Xbox Live Silver that means free Live!. So it looks like a win win for Microsoft fans and a lose lose for Sony fanboys.

I can’t predict wheter XBOX 360 or the PS3 will at the top of the market, but I do know one thing, all of these consoles are taking huge steps in our generation. Can’t wait till the XBOX 360 is released, mainly cause of the DOA 4 trailers that I have seen. Oh, and to all of those XBOX fans who are hungry for the new console to come out, check out the next gen RPG for the 360, Enchant Arm. I heard that it will be a 2 disc game, and the trailer looks very devastating. But I also can’t wait till PS3 and Evolution consoles come out as well. So i’m not a console hater, i’m just a video game junky, don’t care what I play as long as the game satisfies me.

Xbox and Playstation both seem like really good consoles. I dunno if PS3 has AI but 360 does and it will be so awesome! Nintendo is a bit… Well, kiddy. IMO microsoft, sony and nintendo should all team up and make a “super console”. Unfortunately, that will never happen so we will have to put up with half-ass consoles for a while…

Now is the time!!! I dont want to wait, and wait a litle longer for The ps3… ps3 sure can be a bit more powerful, but remeber dreamcast!!!! ps2 couldn´t beat it, lets say Crazy taxi, f355, 24H le mans, doa2, etc , all have been ported to the ps2 and it couldn´t surpass Dreamcast quality not even equal…
So I belive Xbox 360 will be the way to go!!!!
