Microsoft to challenge PlayStation 3 launch with Halo 3
It sounds like a weird competition. Sony PlayStation 3 vs. Microsoft Halo 3! However, this is what Bill Gates has planned for the upcoming gaming plus entertainment console from the tech giant Sony. Reports from the GameSpot gaming website claims that Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has told Time Magazine that whenever Sony launches their next generation gaming console, they would be landing into the launching of the next version of the massively popular Microsoft game Halo 3.
Halo 3 is being called the killer application for the Microsoft’s own console Xbox 360 due to be launched sometime later this year. Microsoft has been considering Sony to be their prime target in the gaming console market and with Xbox 360, they believe that they have the hardware to beat Sony at their own game. Sony currently dominates the gaming console market with their PlayStation 2 device.
What is interesting is the fact that Bill Gates thinks that Halo would affect the sales of the Sony’s gaming platform. It is quite a long shot to assume that gamers would ignore the highly anticipated Sony PlayStation 3 just because Halo 3 would be available for only Xbox platform. Halo has been extremely profitable venture for Microsoft but compared to PlayStation 3, it would be just a piece of software and die-hard Sony fans would probably ignore the lure from the software giant.

Let’s be realistic here, people. Halo 3 will parry the sales of the PlayStation 3, but only to an extent. Hardcore PS3′ers will probably NOT drop everything they own and run out and suddenly purchase a 360 just to get Halo 3.
However, Microsoft does have the drop on Sony in this situation. XB360 is being released later this year; the PS3 is being released in early-mid 2006.
In addition to this, Microsoft is releasing Halo 3 on the same release day as the PS3 (personally a dirty move in my opinion, but business is business).
It goes unsaid that sales for the 360 will, to say the least, be at least exponentially notable, and at most CONQUERING of the PS3’s sales. However, the PS3 is most notable for its Cell Processor, which Sony has generated a lot of hype about sipmly by repeatedly advertising it, whether it is incredible technology or not. This hype could lead to a sales boost, but it would most definitely not counterbalance the Halo 3 release.
Halo 2 is, to this date, the most sold game. Halo 3 will at least be the same unless it is just godawful, which I doubt (my faith in Bungie extends far).
Even though I will most likely buy a PS3, I have to say that Microsoft will probably win over the PS3 sales, at least temporarily.

ok, im a die hard xbox fan. i have halo 1 and 2, xbox live, etc, but neither system wil blow the other one out of the water. brand loyalty and what system you already have will determine what you buy when the time comes. also, bungie has said nothing about halo 3, although they dodged the question rather well. don’t listen to bill. he is not in charge of halo. bungie is.

I can’t really see how these will affect one-another… PS3 is a new system that Sony lovers will buy… Halo 3 will find it’s way into EVERY Xbox that’s going… but personally, Xbox is waaaaaaaaaay ahead of PS2 and with the amount of Halo2 being played, I’m not going to say anymore! :)

I may be a mac fan (yeah, i know you think it sucks) but i think the xbox is providing the best serivce to a small group with good taste while the ps serves every person who just likes the thrill of purchasing huge numbers of games (like mac to microsft in the computer world). ‘Sides, any advantage ps3 has doesn’t matter when the difference is so small and your already at such high power levels. I’d like to see them make a game that lives up to the graphics of the current systems before the next system comes out.

I can’t believe all of you are comparing Xbox 360’s Halo 3 and PS3. For starters, PS2 Dominated the Xbox. With saying that it Dominated the Xbox with poorer system specs. The only reason why anyone would buy an Xbox is for Halo, which I have on my PC, or DOA series, which are for pervs.
When PS3 launches, it claims to not only be faster than Xbox 2, is 2 TIMES as fast!!! Just the system alone can blow Xbox 2 out of the water, let alone a stupid game like Halo 3, which you can play on your PC and have better graphics and FREE ONLINE PLAY.
You are talking about comparing a full system, with 2 HDMI ports for 2 wide screen TVs and a SUPER COMPUTER of the 21 century, with a piece of software that can go online.
OH YEAH!!! With Halo 3, I can go to different planets and shoot people online, or I can do the single story that sucks grandmas a**, just like Halo 2 and Halo 1.
The only thing different with Halo 3 compared to the rest of the series are better graphics… that is all you can expect with a shooter. SOFTWARE PEOPLE, YOU CANNOT COMPARE SOFTWARE WITH A ‘SUPER COMPUTER’!

The major difference between PS3 and XBOX360 iis that sony is using blue laser technology in their upcoming platform and microsoft is using hd technology.PS3’s games will be 2 to 3 times as long but they will price more.Xbox360 will be cheaper and more effecient becuase sony just starting using blue ray.Other than that i have played and seen the xbox360 first hand and i can tell you that it will most likely dominate over anything sony has to offer.But hey lets leave that to the fans. :)

i have both the ps2 and x box. GTA….simply awesome. Madden 2006…..again simply awesome. I have been playing PS ever since it came out and I love it. But Halo 2… the BEST online game ever. **Note the “Online” part because that’s what makes the game great..the ability to play the game differently ever time you turn it on and because of all those kooky custom games. I have played (since I got my X Box) X Box 98% of the time(mostly halo). I think Halo3 will definitly have an impact on X Box sales because it is the best multi-player/online game ever.

i dont know what your talking about xbox’s hardware being less than the ps2’s. xbox hardware is a lot better than ps2’s hardware. besides although xbox didn’t have as many good titles coming out before, almost every good gaming franchise that has large multiplayer support has come to microsoft. halo, halo 2, half-life 2, doom 3, forza motorsport (gran turismo killer), unreal championship 2, etc…
xbox 360 has hardware better than ps3’s by 3-5x in EVERY CATEGORY, and ships earlier.

Sony has nothing to worry about with Halo 3 coming out. The Xbox 360 will shudder under the might of the PS3. The PS3 is just too good to pass up. The Xbox 360 is now more of a media center and PC, than a hardcore gaming console, like the PS3.

the halo franchise is a legend since it has beaten all other first person shooters for over 4 years a very long undefeated streak and halo has done it before it might do it again and it was released when ps2’s slim version was out and it annilated in sales and eventually it was hurting sonys sales and that is why they are doing it again and i noticed something on killzones date that it will be sold almost on the same day but if sonys trying to stop halo it is futile because Halo is the champ so it is not going to be HALO vs GTA because we have that as well so its gonna be HALO 3 vs KILLZONE 2

I had ps2 before I had xbox and I really enjoyed it for about a year. One of my favorite games is Kingdom hearts. But when xbox came out, I didnt buy it right away(big mistake). When I finally bought xbox it changed my world and now all I do is play Halo 2 live. Personally I do not think making Halo 3 and PS3 out on the same day will make much of a difference. Xbox fans will buy Halo 3 and ps2 fans will buy ps3.
I have a question? Do you guys really think that ps2 is that good? Soccom 2 sucks and so does all the army games on it ecspecially Grand theft auto sucks. Get a real game like Halo 2.

Hahah! omg, for those of you that think Halo 3 will have any effect, first consider that Halo games take more than 2 years to develope… and now, Halo 3 is gonna be developed in less than 10 months!! If I’m not mistaken thats no where near 2 years! Bungie is a good company… but If MS is gonna rush Halo 3, its gonna totally SUCK!
I’ve played Halo… nothing special… =P While I will say the GTA games are cool, they aren’t the only cool games PS3 will have!
PS3 has more power and more features, and better games! And its made by a company that hasn’t monopolized every computer in the world. >_> =P

Xbox is a wast of time to buy games, In which I belive that Sony have more to give then Xbox just becaues you can only play Halo 2 or 3 so what, you can say Xbox 360 is better not in a long run, PlayStation 2 and 3 is better at games and impove at its aspect. They had free internet server, for there games and you have to pay $50-$60 dollars for Xbox account internet server, What is that you call cool a monthly cost, I myself have a Xbox, the games are so boring in halo an others, I can walk though out the game and beat it less then an 1hr, even on the sever it can be fun but so boring at the sametime.I can not belive what I’m reading what peoples saying about Xbox games they can only come up with first person view shooting games and sporting games from raceing game, even there so call rpg’s.
I see that the Playstation 3 is so far impove from all system, find out your self I don’t need to say more. I have 3 friends at school that started a halo sucks club( jsut to piss me off, it was kinda like a joke they just said halo sucks like every 2 hours). they never played it and they were hardcore gta and acecombat gamers. 2 of these peopel played halo 2 and bought an xbox just for it. the other one never did and he never recieved true pleasure in life. The 2 peopel that played it said that they will by an xbox 360 becuase Bill gates knows what he is doing. I mean look, all the good games are coming out for Xbox 360. Halo 3, Perfect Dark zero, elder scrolls 4, KOTOR 3 (not official), GTA. The only thing ps3 has is FF and Kilzone. Halo 3 > killzone Kotor 3 >>>>>>>>> FF

Wow all you xbox fanboys need to do your research before you come on here and start flaming the ps3. According to almost all the reputable websites i’ve been too (eg. IGN, gamespot) have said that out of the 2 systems, ps3 has the deffinate better lineup of publishers for release. sorry xbox, but your halo 3 and gay gears of war will sell lots, but will not be able to contend with ALL the just good but not great ps3 games. Halo 3 may be a great game and will sell tons, but it can not overpower 20 good games for the ps3
Oh, and all you idiots saying halo is “the best online game ever” have obviously never played counter-strike, and no i dont mean your gay xbox version, counter-strike has been out many more years that “halo” and still has at least twice as many people playing it.

Honestly, both machines have comparable specifications, and freankly, after the mass-corporate market-cornering scheme Sony pulled on the PS2, gaming companies aren’t going to be making games exclusively for the PS# much anymore. Secondly, the 360 is scheduled to be out way before the PS3, which already puts the 360 ahead of the game. The Halo franchise, although considered to be, by many consumers (not gaming comapnies), to be the bread and butter of any Xbox console, it never has nor ever will be the sole factor for maintaining any console system. No one console has ever been made or broken because of one game. Ever. Its that simple. These consoles have hundreds and thousands of titles at their disposal and frankly with the hardware in the two new consoles to be released, the Xbox is STILL the more powerful system and its easier to program for, lending an incredible freedom for programmers with its on-the-fly tessalation, programmable L2 and L1 cache, super-robust ATI graphics engine and DTS capable surround sound. To me, the only factor that will save the PS3 this time around is the Blue-Ray Disc. Honestly, that IS sexy, but any consumer would be insane to base their choice of purchase solely on the media format of the system. Sony came out with Blue-Ray and they’re trying to, yet again, corner the market on their own forms of media. Blue-Ray is indeed fantastic, but personally, I wouldn’t buy a PS3 just for that purpose.
All in all, both machines are highly capable, and I believe I will let the games for each machine speak for themselves. When all is said and done, I still think the reigning champion system in this quite serious head-to-head battle will be the 360. I have little doubt of that.

Hey guys I have to put it this way nice and simple… Yes PS3 is very nice and shiny with similar specs to Xbox 360, which are close but no cigar and Yes Xbox 360 has 3x the processing power, better graphics, cooler games, is sleek and shiny slim light convenient, has two of the leading titles halo3 and oblivion, and yes will also have GTA on it as always. So what do you have to say.
Plus if your buying ps3 for the finalfantasy series, forget about it, the xbox360 is having FFXI online in its game selection and will have you paying half of sony’s subscription fees to play it. Also the xbox 360 is teaming up with square enix, so expect finalfantasy games for the xbox 360 as well. is there anything here I havent menchened that would take up most of ps3 sales… so give me a…

What many people fail to realize is that far from being out of the running, the Revolution is a more than adequate contender for next gen. Admittedly, they have promoted the library of classic Nintendo titles more than I think is really necessary, to the point that people think that is its only selling point. Its graphics capabilities will be high end enough to equal the PS3 or the 360, admitting the loss of HD (although who has an HDTV anyways?), and the controller info is yet to be released. It will also feature USB 2.0 ports, probably allowing computer connectivity for monitor usage and to use the computer’s hard drive to store info for games that require a hard disc. It will also be affordable, going for about $180 to $200, the cheapest next gen console by a hundred dollars. But that’s not to say it won’t be powerful. Rumor has it that since Apple dropped IBM in favor of Intel to produce their G5 processors, IBM is supplying the Revolution with dual 1.8 GHz IBM G5 processors, which would certainly provide enough processing power for anything in the coming generation at least. And lastly, every head from Nintendo has hinted that the controller will be the truly revolutionary element. On that note I have no idea what is in store, although August 17th in Leipsig Germany there is a press conference being held in which Nintendo is looking to reveal some more revolution specs. Their campaign and product shots all look very Apple-esqe, and as I have always been a fan of Apple and Nintendo products,
apparently finally merging into one to some degree, I couldn’t be more looking forward to the release of the Revolution.

I don’t care what you say about the two systems. First of all, have you seen the PS3 controller? Only a mutant freak could hold that thing without it jabbing into your legs. Aslo, if I am correct, the PS3’s online play is not free and yet the 360’s is. Enen the Revolution’s online play is free for first party games!
As for you RPG fans, the makers of the Final Fantisy games have announce they are no longer producing the majority of the series just for Sony (*Cough* FF13 on the 360 and Revolution)
I think the 360 will do far better than the PS3 because it comes out sooner so the impatient people will buy it and have nothing left over for the PS3. Then, Microsoft is releasing Halo 3 on the day the PS3 comes out and gamers will want the good games for their current system rather than buy a new one.
And for the GTA series, remember GTA:SA was pulled off the shelves for the A.O. rating? Who says that won’t happen again? Even some other popular PS2 games like Ratchet and Klank and the Jak series ended on the third installments. The rest of the PS3 games will be crap or for all the systems. The PS3 will have like 2 good (or decent) games, Kill Zone and GTA, I see far better stuff coming from Nintendo even. (Let’s not get into PSP vs. DS)

I am an xbox fan, but I honestly think PS3 will be the victor here. Halo has honestly become a tiring game, and most people were bummed out after the crappy Halo 2. Most people are moving on to other genres other than first person shooters as well. About the only good game Xbox 360 will have going for it is Elder Scrolls: Obilvion and Gears of War. PS3 is releasing many great titles such as Grand Theft Auto and Killzone 3. Well it doesn’t really matter since I am buying both. However, Xbox is not the winner, PS3 will unfortunately dominate it.

despite what everyone is saying about xbox 360 being better graphics-wise than PS3 or vise versa we have no idea. They (just like PS2 and xbox) both have their ups and downs. It really boils down to whether or not PS3 can actually meet its hype or not. We know what XBOX 360 has now i am ready to see what PS3 has..
