Manhunt 2 banned in Ireland
Ireland has imposed its first ban on a videogame product. The distinction goes to Manhunt 2 which is scheduled to be launched by Rockstar for Nintendo Co.’s Wii and Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 2 and Playstation Portable consoles.
Irish film censor board had these words for this game: “gross, unrelenting and gratuitous violence”.
Irish film censor John Kelleher added that the game features “sustained and cumulative casual sadism.” He added that the game is unacceptable and as a result is now banned in the country.
He however admitted that the gamers looking for a copy of the game can still get hold of one by placing an order on the internet.
The game features an amnesiac scientist and a psychotic killer from an asylum who goes on a killing spree. Rockstar spokesman Rodney Walker had this to say about the ban: “We’re going to look at this on a country-by-country basis, but this game is really important to us.”
Incidentally, the game has already been banned in Britain and has been given an AO (Adults Only) certificate in America.
