Sony PlayStation 3 Details

The pre-E3 press conference saw some important details coming out from the entertainment giant Sony Corporation. They have confirmed the name of their next generation gaming console to fight it out in the market against Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Revolution. In addition, they have confirmed that the device would be using the Sony’s next generation DVD standard Blu-ray Disks.

Sony’s next PlayStation would officially be known as Sony PlayStation 3. This was quite apparent, as the company has been running teaser advertisement campaigns using the same name. Sony is in fact vying for the attention of the end consumer with slogans like “Prepare for Chang3″ reflecting the same code number for this upcoming gaming console.

The next generation data storage solution from Sony, the Blu-Ray DVD disks can hold as much as six times the data of current generation drives. In addition, the console would support current generation disks like CR-ROM, CDR+W, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats, which makes it excellent buy for people having tons of traditional media.

Sony has also confirmed that the gaming console would be backwardly compatible to the first PlayStation which is another good news for the fans of Sony gaming. For other storage devices, it would have slots for Memory Stick Duo, a SD slot, and a compact flash memory slot. In addition, it would also come with support for handling a detachable 2.5 inch HDD. This feature is also present in its prime competitor Microsoft Xbox 360 and makes the fight much more interesting.
