Parallel Processing sues Sony for Playstation 3 processor
Parallel Processing has sued the consumer electronics giant Sony for the processor which powers their Playstation 3 gaming console.
The company has asked a federal court to order Sony to destroy its Playstation 3 videogame consoles which they claim is infringing upon their patented technology.
The lawsuit was filed last week in U.S. District Court in Tyler, Texas. The company claims that the PS3 processor is in violation of their owned patent for “synchronized parallel processing with shared memory.”
This patent was granted to them in October 1991. Sony is yet to comment on this latest lawsuit filed against them.
The Sony Playstation 3 gaming console is powered by the processor named Cell which the company claims provides the equivalent computing power of eight individual microprocessors.
The Cell processor was developed by Sony in collaboration with Toshiba and IBM.
