Microsoft to use TSMC 90 nm DRAM process for Xbox 360

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has said in a statement that the software giant Microsoft has now started using their 90-nanometer-embedded-DRAM process technology for their Xbox 360 gaming console.

TSMC is the world’s top contract chip maker and the company said in a statement: “Microsoft’s selection of the TSMC 90nm eDRAM process for the graphics-rich Xbox 360 is an important validation of the capability and maturity of the technology.”

The company further claimed that they have been manufacturing 90 nanometer embedded dynamic random access memory (DRAM) since the first quarter of 2006.

This news comes just as Microsoft has reduced the prices of their various Xbox 360 variants in the US market as they prepare for the launch of their Halo 3 gaming title.
