Nintendo Wii becomes the fastest selling videogame console in British History

Nintendo has now sold more than 1 million Wii console units in the British market and with this it has become the fastest selling video games console in British history.

The company took around 38 weeks to achieve this feat and it managed to beat the record held by Sony Playstation 2 gaming console.

Market analysts said that Nintendo gained as they managed to attract the attention of “non-core” gamers. The console continues to outsell the Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 in the market.

The company added in a statement that they are now aiming to ship 16.5 million Wii consoles by March 31 2008. This forecast is up from 14 million previously.

Nintendo also claims that for their games the ratio of men to women buyers has fallen to two to one from an industry average of four to one.
