Halo 3 sales touch an impressive $170 million on first day
Microsoft has revealed that the sales of their Halo 3 videogame for the Xbox 360 platform touched an impressive $170 million.
This has managed to outdo any previous videogame release. In fact this launch has even managed to overtake any movie debut in the history.
This is a major boost for the company which is still looking to achieve profitability in their gaming division.
Microsoft further claimed that more than a million gamers logged on to the Xbox Live online service to play the game online.
Halo 2 was a major success itself with sales of $125 million on the first day. Market analyst Andy Miedler had this to say on the launch: “It’s a good number. This certainly goes a long way toward bringing Microsoft’s entertainment division toward that full-year profitability, which we think is important for investors.”
Microsoft is trying to maintain their lead on the Sony’s Playstation 3 gaming console which is playing catch up with the Xbox 360 ever since its launch last year.
Microsoft has an years advantage but has no match for the Nintendo Wii console which is selling in huge numbers in the market.
