Sony confirms Playstation 3 40GB edition for Europe
Japanese videogame console maker Sony has announced that they would be launching a 40 GB edition of their Playstation 3 gaming console in the European market.
However, this console would lack support for older generation of games. Sony did not say anything about this console being launched in the US market.
This 40GB edition of the PS3 would be sold in the European market for 399 Euros. In Britain, it would be sold for 299 Pounds. It would be made available in the retail markets starting next week.
Sony said in a statement on this new launch: “The introduction of the new PS3 has been determined following user feedback from thousands of existing PS3 owners as well as research into future potential PS3 owners. The new model features two USB 2.0 ports rather than four and no longer includes the multi memory card port.”
Looks like Sony is trying to cut costs on PS3 production by removing the compatibility for PS2 games. This would disappoint a lot of prospective buyers wanting this cheaper variant of the Playstation 3.

About

To tell you the truth, I have a PS3 (60GB version) & only ever use 2 USB ports at once & have never used the memory card slots. So as far as I’m concerned, the massive price drop more than makes up for the loss of backwards compatibility. Coupled with the imminent launch of some long overdue decent games, Blu-ray & Wifi. This is the time to snap one up.
