Seagate to supply external hard disks for Xbox 360
Leading storage solution provider Seagate would be supplying the disks to the Microsoft for shipping with the upcoming next generation gaming console Xbox 360. Seagate just recently unveiled the LD25 2.5″ discs, which they said, were specially designed for use in such systems as removable storage solutions.
These drives would come in capacities of 20GB, 30GB, and 40GB and the Xbox 360 would be shipping with the 20GB version. Owners of this new version of the very popular Xbox could use this extra storage space for downloading additional content for games, video messages, and even customized sound tracks.
Microsoft believes that this external storage capacity would enhance the overall gaming experience with the Xbox 360 as the Microsoft’s corporate VP of Xbox hardware, Todd Holmdahl said in a statement to the press: “The hard drive extends the gaming experience on Xbox 360. From downloading trailers, new game levels, maps, weapons, vehicles, and more to supporting custom play lists in every game and storing video messages from friends, Seagate’s LD25 Series 2.5-inch hard drive brings gaming and digital media together for the ultimate entertainment experience.”
These drives are optimized to consume less power and improve the data transfer for smoother media streaming. They are also designed to be quieter than normal drives to make it a convenient add-on to the Xbox gaming machine.
