Microsoft buys backward compatibility support from Nvidia for Xbox 360

One of the major changes that takes place in the next generation gaming console Xbox 360 from the house of Microsoft is the switch from Nvidia graphic technology to ATI one. This had led to fears that the games developed for the current Xbox would not be compatible with the Xbox 360. However, the latest deal between the two players has somehow made things easier.

Microsoft has signed a deal with the graphic card developer Nvidia to license the company’s technology to enable the backward compatibility support. However, since the Xbox 360 has other major changes in architecture, some tinkering would still be required to get the old games back. Reports say that this support for older games was not on plan when the Xbox 360 was being developed.

The company just at the E3 show confirmed that they would be ensuring the support for at least the most popular games for the Xbox 360. This still does not clear the things enough for the end users. Market analysts predict that some form of recompilation would be required to get the things worked out and alternate form of storage devices like the external hard disks might come handy for that.

Microsoft has however confirmed that they would not be charging for any such backward compatibility changes required to run the older generation games. More details however are not out yet.
