Sony celebrating seven-year anniversary of Playstation 2

Sony might not be selling as many Playstation 3 gaming console in the market as they originally expected but they still have a winner in the form of Playstation 2.

The Japanese videogame console maker is now celebrating the seven year anniversary of the launch of the PS2 gaming console.

Sony said that since its launch in 2000, they have sold as many as 120 million units of the PS2. In addition to this they have also sold more than a billion units of games for this console.

This easily makes the PS2 the best selling videogaming platform of all times.

Peter Dille, SCEA’s senior vice president of marketing and PlayStation network added in a statement: “Never before has an in-home game system experienced this type of worldwide success on such a long-lasting scale. PlayStation 2 is a perfect example of our ten year product lifecycle promise and is a testament to the design and technology that continues to be at the core of the product. While today’s anniversary celebrates PlayStation 2′ past, we’re very excited for its future.”
