Microsoft supports Eidos in the 25 to Life gaming fiasco

A new game ‘25 to Life’ is creating buzz in the market as a US senator has declared a war against the game developer claiming that the game lowers common decency levels. Eidos on their part have said that the ratings systems are in place for labeling games based on content. They also claim that games are a creative form of expression and the latest game is just part of the same concept.

Microsoft has backed the company and has said in a statement: “25 to Life was developed for a mature audience and has been rated so it will be sold only to the appropriate audiences.” Charles Schumer, senator for New York is demanding a ban on the game and has asked the companies Microsoft and Sony to block its release for their gaming platforms.

The game publisher is quite clear about their policy on this demand as they have said: “The Xbox community is growing to include gamers of all ages – we encourage titles that will appeal to these different groups, whether you love action, sports, racing, or fighting games but we also stand behind, and fully comply with, local and pan-European ratings systems such as PEGI to ensure that this content is enjoyed by the appropriate audiences as well as informing parents about which games are appropriate for which gamers”.

Sony on their part has yet to comment on the issue. The game is scheduled to be released in the market this coming August and has been rated M for its mature content. British Board of Film Classification is also expected to give the game an 18+ rating.
