Ubisoft acquires Digital Kids

Videogame company Ubisoft has announced that they are now acquiring Japanese development studio Digital Kids.

The two companies have not revealed the financial aspects of this deal.

Ubisoft would now be able to expand their casual game releases with this acquisition. They expect to close the deal by the third fiscal quarter of the 2007-08 year.

Digital Kids has offices located in Nagoya and Osaka in Japan. They have around 20 developers who specialize in creating games for the Nintendo DS gaming device.

Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer of Ubisoft spoke on this acquisition deal: “When it comes to Nintendo DS games, Digital Kids has demonstrated a leading knowledge that has resulted in creative animal simulation titles that appeal to Japanese and Western audiences alike, which is quite rare. This acquisition attests to Ubisoft’s capacity to establish successful partnerships in new territories and reinforces its advance on casual games.”

Masahito Hasegawa, president of Digital Kids added: “It is an honor to become part of Ubisoft, one of the world’s leading video game publishers. I am truly looking forward to using our experience to develop games that will be enjoyed by players all over the globe.”
