Sony to launch lighted compact Playstation 2 in Japan

Rumors related to a new variant of the Sony Playstation 2 gaming console were indeed right.

Sony has now announced that they would be launching a new updated PS2 in the Japanese market later this month.

This new unit would feature a built-in AC adapter and it would be lighter than the current model.

Sony said that considering the fact that the gamers would no longer be required to carry around the bulky AC adapter, it would become easier for them to enjoy their games anywhere in the house.

It would retail for 16,000 yen. Surprisingly, this is not changed from the current model. Market sources had expected it to be cheaper than the current version.

Looks like Sony wants to continue churning out as much cash as they can from the PS2 considering they continue to make losses from the Playstation 3 gaming console.
