NaviSite’s Online Video Publishing Platform Makes Content Delivery Easy

NaviSite, Inc., (NASDAQ: NAVI), a leading provider of application management and managed hosting solutions, today announced that Global Sports has selected the NaviSite Online Video Publishing Platform to handle the delivery of its new media. The goal of Global Sports co-founders, Joe Blaney and Jay O’Meara, is a simple one: “No Athlete Left Behind.” They have partnered with schools, institutions and organizations across the country to provide full game video and the ability for every athlete to connect and share clips, photos and information.

Global Sports was looking for a straightforward and seamless solution to provide its customers with a means to capture both User Generated Content (UGC) and Professional content; and to upload, and transcode them to a universal format for download to its viewers over the Internet. The NaviSite Online Video Publishing Platform provided the solution; this service enables the Upload, Transcode and Download of videos of the sporting events through the end user’s web browser. The Global Sports site will provide a simple portal for the upload of a new game video—in any format—and then automatically transcode the video into a universal standard for viewing on-line. “We are creating an electronic scrapbook for all amateur athletes and their families to cherish for many years to come,” said Joe Blaney, co-founder of Global Sports.

Global Sports wanted to allow end-users to be able to easily seek backwards and forwards through the video, and to select their own highlights or parts of a game to be shared with others. One of the unique features of the NaviSite Online Video Publishing Platform is the VTag feature. VTag lets end users tag a segment of the video and share it with friends. This enables the viewer to focus on part of a game without viewing the entire video. The NaviSite Platform also includes the ability for Global Sports to integrate advertisements into future streams to provide a way to further monetize the content on behalf of the institutions that subscribe to the service.

“NaviSite’s Online Video Publishing Platform makes it easy for a company like Global Sports to build a new business model, and have the tools needed to deliver their content globally through NaviSite’s network,” said Phil Simmonds, Senior Director of Content Delivery Services at NaviSite. “The ease of use is key for our customers, along with the feature richness that will provide more services as they grow.”

NaviSite’s Content Streaming and Acceleration Services drive rich media and application content into the hands of customers, partners and other end users for maximum business value. NaviSite offers a full range of Content and Delivery Acceleration Services including Content Streaming, Electronic File Delivery (EFD), and Web Acceleration services including a highly-reliable, scalable, and fast network based in strategic locations, more-efficient HotRoute® content routing capabilities, 24×7 management and support, and insightful reporting on download trends and technical performance.
