Reports claim that external HDD will not come bundled with PlayStation 3
There is possible disappointed news for the fans of the famous Sony PlayStation gaming consoles. A media magazine Famitsu has reported that the upcoming next generation gaming console from the entertainment giant Sony, PlayStation 3 will not ship with an external hard drive in the standard package.
The company would be offering them a third party add-on, which can be purchased as an accessory. The drive would of course ship with a slot for a hard drive – which can be found on the underside of the machine. It would be supporting a 2.5″ hard drive package. Sony is encouraging the users to make use of this external storage for a wide range of media functionality, such as the ability to download media from online stores and possibly even to rip DVDs to the drive.
The company head had previously said that they are still undecided on whether to ship the hard disk with the console itself. They also suggest that the media might have the capacity to store around 80GB data. This is around 4 times the capacity of rumored storage space in the external hard disk to be made available for the Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
If the news story is true, it would give a slight edge to Xbox 360 as multiplayer games are getting more and more storage intensive and requires such a media for optimal performance and experience. Sony would be trying to makeup for that with other medium of storage for default shipping package.
