Activision: Game Consoles need to be cheaper
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has said in a statement that both Sony and Microsoft would have to drive down the prices of their gaming consoles for the industry to reach mass market appeal.
Currently, the cheapest next generation console in the market is the Nintendo Wii which sells for around USD 250.
The Cheapest Xbox 360 model in the market is priced at USD 280. Sony’s cheapest Playstation 3 console costs USD 400.
He said: “The Wii at its price point is now setting a standard and an expectation, and people say, well, the Wii is less complex technically. I don’t think that really matters as much to the consumer.”
He said that the consoles need to be priced around USD 199 to attract new gamers.
