Rockstar Games blames the Hot Coffee mod on hackers

The controversial game developer popular for the GTA series of video games have finally broken their silence on the issue of adult material reported in the latest version GTA: San Andreas. The issue has been circulating in the media for nearly two weeks now and Rockstar has said that they have nothing to do with the Hot Coffee mod to their game, which is available on the Internet

They claim that the mod is a development of a determined group of hackers who have gone to significant trouble to alter scenes in the official version of the game. The company is currently facing investigations by the US-based Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) and another by an arm of the Australian government. Both these organizations are currently studying the game for the reported adult material.

The main issue is to find out whether the original shipped copy of the game on the DVD contains the modules the mod downloadable from the Internet makes accessible. The mod creator says that he only unlocked the hidden content already available on the DVD while the company says the mod itself contains the adult material. Rockstar has until now been quite on the issue and had only said that they were cooperating with the authorities involved in the investigations.

The company also said that they are currently taking the steps to disable the effects of this mod. The statement from Rockstar said: “Since the ‘Hot Coffee’ scenes cannot be created without intentional and significant technical modifications and reverse-engineering of the game’s source code, we are currently investigating ways that we can increase the security protection of the source code”.

On the playstation 2 version of the game you can access the “Hot Coffee” mini game by using a “Pro-action replay” which is basically like a game shark. So they most likley put it in their themselfs.

Yeah, this has been in the game since it was released. Heck, you could bang a hooker in the previous versions, then beat her up and get your money back. I think is funny how the company is trying to blame hackers for something they put in the game.

Obviously, Rockstar is full of it when the say hackers put the mini-game in. The way to unlock the Hot Coffee portion of the game is through ARMAX or Gameshark codes. These two cheat utilities cannot add any new material, they can only modify or activate what’s already there. In Final Fantasy VII you could bring back a dead character, in GTA: San Andreas you can see some adult content. It’s just a matter of finding the right codes. I havn’t tried it for myself, though. Pixellated porn isn’t my thing.

Please don’t judge the video game community based on what Rockstar does. They’re like the black sheep of the video gaming family.

I think this is a load of crap. The game probably contained the scenes in the first realeased DVD’s and now that they are caught they are trying to blame the creators of the Mod. I can;t believe it took this long to find out about this.
