Microsoft snaps up a deal with Marvel for Xbox 360 games

Microsoft has reported that they have signed up an exclusive deal with Marvel comics to develop games based on their popular comic characters. These games would be developed for the upcoming next generation gaming console from the company Xbox 360. This means that the company would have the rights to develop games based on popular superheroes like Superman, Fantastic 4, Avengers, and the X-Men.

The deal with Microsoft is a first of its kind for marvel. It also happens to be the first one for Microsoft related to their console version. They already have such deals for their PC games. The games developed on these characters are expected to be multi player online versions, which have become quite popular in the recent times with the advancement in technologies and arrival of broadband Internet connectivity.

Online capabilities are essential to make a truly multiplayer game considering it allows gamers from around the world to compete with each other. And with Xbox supporting multiple ways to connect to the Internet, it would give them a huge opportunity to leverage the brand values of the various superstars associated with Marvel to make popular games.

The company is due to launch Xbox 360 sometime later this year and it would come with the online capability service called Xbox live. A senior Microsoft representative Peter Moore spoke to the media about this deal and the possibilities of creating an online gaming world with these superhero characters: “Online gaming is reaching a point of acceptance. We will use as many of the Marvel characters as we can.”
