BD-LIVE support coming to Sony Playstation 3

Sony has said that the upcoming firmware upgrade for the Playstation 3 gaming console would include a variety of new features.

One of the major enhancements would be the support for interactive Blu-ray movie features which are part of the Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE).

This would allow the owners of the PS3 console to experience interactive features like downloadable video content, ringtones, games and more.

Sony added that the new firmware would also allow photo and music playlists to run on the PS3.

Sony’s Scott Steinberg added: “With Blu-ray established as the high-definition optical disc standard, more consumers are ready to jump in and take advantage of everything the format offers. With these regular firmware updates and future-proofed technology, SCEA is making the 10-year lifecycle of PS3 possible.”
