Microsoft: No Blu-Ray drive for Xbox 360

Software giant Microsoft has said it again. They have no plans to offer a Blu-Ray attachment for their Xbox 360 gaming console.

Instead the company intends to focus on digital delivery of media content to the users of the gaming console.

They have already stopped manufacturing the HD DVD drive for the console after Toshiba announced they are exiting from the format war with Sony which is the developer of the rival Blu-Ray format.

Sony ships their Playstation 3 console with a Blu-Ray drive which gives an advantage to the owners of this console.

Microsoft’s Neil Thompson said in a statement: “We have always said online is the way to go.”

He spoke about the HD DVD attachment: “We said to people they had the choice; we didn’t force it on them as we didn’t put it in the box”.
