Videogame industry had a smash hit March

NPD Group has reported that the month of March was an excellent one for the videogame industry.

The US retail market saw a massive improvement in terms of sales of videogames.

NPD analyst Anita Frazier spoke about their research: “You’d never know that the U.S. economy was under distress by looking at the video games industry sales figures.”

The research report said that the video game software sales jumped 63 percent from March 2007 to $945.6 million.

Super Smash Bros: Brawl for Nintendo Wii was the best selling game of the month with 2.7 million units sold.

721,000 Nintendo Wii units were sold in the US market in March. Nintendo DS took the second spot with sales of 698,000 units. Sony PSP was third with 297,000 units sold.
