PSP v2.00 coming up for US customers

Sony is going to launch the software upgrade for their customers in the United States next week. This update would be bringing the Web browser and other new features for the PSP owners. They have already launched this update in their primary market of Japan and they call it the Firmware Upgrade 2.0. August 12 is the scheduled date for the launch in the American market.

This update would be adding support for a web browser, improved audio/video support, options for photo sharing and adding background images to the user interface. It also brings tweaks to other minor settings on the PSP gaming console. The company had earlier warned that if the American customers apply the Japanese update, it would result in cancellation of the warranty on the American version of PSP.

Owners of Sony Playstation Portable in USA would be able to get this update by connecting directly through a wireless access point using their PSPs or by using their PCs to download the file from the official US PSP website. This can then be transferred to the PSP using a USB cable. European market is yet to get the PSP handheld gaming system and it is scheduled to launch their sometime later this year.

Sony says that the Europe market would get this update preinstalled on the PSPs when it is launched there.
