GTA 4 helps videogame industry in April
Grand Theft Auto 4 was launched recently and the game helped boosting the sales of videogames last month.
Research Company NPD stated that the video game hardware and software rose 47 percent from a year earlier in the month of April.
Nintendo Wii continues to sell in large numbers and the sales of this console did not slow down due to the GTA 4 effect.
GTA 4 is only available for the rival consoles Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3.
Lazard Capital analyst Colin Sebastian added about the industry in April: “The Easter shift from April to March this year I think had an impact on sales during the month. I know on the hardware side it was a little light but let’s see what a month of ‘GTA’ sales does for those platforms as well as a month without a holiday shift.”
GTA 4 has been a huge hit and the game sold nearly 2.9 million copies in the United States in its first five days.
