Blizzard Authenticator for World of Warcraft gamers announced

Blizzard has announced that they have developed an electronic token device named Blizzard Authenticator for the gamers of World of Warcraft to provide added security layer to prevent unauthorized account access.

This device provides a unique code which would be required to be put in while logging into the system.

This code would be required in addition to the username and password for authentication.

The company said that it would retail for $6.50 through Blizzard’s online store soon.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment said in a statement: “It’s important to us that World of Warcraft offers a safe and enjoyable game environment. One aspect of that is helping players avoid account compromise, so we’re pleased to make this additional layer of security available to them.”

lol “so we’re pleased to make this additional layer of security available to them.” Of course they are! Sneaky Blizzard always thinking up new ways to siphon more money from the poor WoW player. Are you not satisfied Blizz?? Is taking my life not enough?

yea i guess, I’m just not too worried about someone figuring out my login and password. People only get their accounts stolen if they give out their pw.

GotGame you are a total idiot if you think “people only get their accounts stolen if they give out their pw”. There are viruses and keyloggers designed specifically to steal and retrieve passwords from infected systems. Some of these programs are invisible to virus scans and are somehow able to get past firewalls. My gf’s account was hacked last night and she lost 12k plus gold along with all her gear/bank items. Funny thing is I spent the entire day scanning her computer with every thing I could possibly throw at it and still didn’t find a virus or a logger.

Blizz is in the process of restoring everything but if this little authenticator device had been available the hack would have never happened. I for one anticipate the release of this “security token” and will be purchasing one as soon as they are available.

BTW, I’ve got AVG antivirus, NoScript, AdAware, Spybot, and Comodo Firewall Pro installed on her system and she was still hacked. She has never given her pw out, not even to me. All scans are set to run daily and firewall is set to max. How the hacker got her info is beyond my 10 year experience with computers. I retract the “idiot” remark and chalk your statement up to an uneducated response.

To anyone who has had their account hacked, I feel for ya. These bastards should be drug out in the street and stoned by gnomes!!

Yea I guess I never really considered keyloggers and malware, always just assumed it was stolen pws. MY BAD. Anyway, I just hate giving blizz more money!
