Nintendo reduces price of DS video game device

With Microsoft expected to launch further details on their upcoming Xbox 360 gaming console. Sony rumored to be considering massively slashing the cost of their Playstation 2 retail costing to compete with the arrival of the Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming console. Nintendo has decided to take some tough decisions as well. The legendary gaming company has cut the U.S. price of its Nintendo DS portable video game device by 13 percent to about $130 from about $150.

These price cuts would be applicable from the 21st of this month and comes after around 9 months of the launch of this dual screen portable gaming machine from the makers of the popular Mario character. The device opens like a clamshell and has two screens, including one that responds to touch. The company said that they took the decision in advance for the launch of the August 22 U.S. release of “Nintendogs”. It is a kind of videogame where the user can own a virtual pet and raise it.

The game has been quite successful in the home market of Japan and is now expected to wow the users in Europe and America. The device competes with the Sony’s Playstation Portable device, which retails for around $250. Nintendo has another product in the same category in the form of Game Boy Advance, which comes at a lower price tag of around USD 100. The company expects to sell 12.4 million DS game machines in the current year.
