Microsoft hires Celestica Inc. for Xbox 360 manufacturing

Microsoft is due to launch their next generation gaming console Xbox 360 sometime later this year. The gaming console would be taking on the Sony PlayStation 3 due to be launched next year. Apart from that, the company also faces Nintendo Revolution as one of their potential challenger in the future. Microsoft has already announced two companies who would be building their Xbox game console and today they added another name to that list of lucky manufacturers.

Toronto-based Celestica Inc. would now join Flextronics International Ltd. and Wistron Inc. in building one of the most awaited tech hardware of this year. The company has confirmed that they are on track for a global launch in the current year and the launch would take place in North America, Europe, and Japan during the upcoming holiday season.

Todd Holmdahl, corporate vice president of the Xbox Product Group at Microsoft said in a press statement while announcing the news: “With three contract manufacturers on board, we’re poised to have the flexibility and efficiencies we need to keep up with the consumer demand.” Interestingly, the manufacturing units of all these three companies to build the Xbox 360 are located in the Pearl River Delta region in southern China.

So, in the end even the Xbox 360 is being manufactured by the mighty Chinese!

It is wonderful that Celestica starts manufacturing this console and I think that they maybe starting to see the potencial of this company in the Americas where it has a lot of presence. Hopfuly in Monterrey Mexico where they have a huge building. And also they may start considering the posibilities of the repair hubs that this company has on the Americas.
