Microsoft hopes user generated Xbox games to add bling to its console
Microsoft has announced that they would soon start offering user-generated games for their Xbox 360 gaming console through the online Xbox Live service.
They would share the revenues with the game developer. Game developers are expected to get 70% of the revenues.
This model is similar to how Apple is generating revenues from applications developed by third party codes for their Apple iPhone device.
Microsoft had been offering game development tools to interested developers since 2006 through their XNA initiative.
These games would be sold at three different price points: $2.50, $5 or $10.
Chris Satchell, chief technology officer at Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business group spoke about this new development: “Not only are we democratizing game development with Xbox Live Community Games later this year, but we’re creating an opportunity for aspiring developers.”
