Ars Technica: September to see Xbox 360 price cut

News media service Ars Technica has said in a report that Microsoft is planning to cut the prices of their Xbox 360 gaming console in September this year.

This price cut could be significant for the company as they just might be able to challenge Nintendo Wii with the cheapest Xbox 360 console.

Report said that the Xbox 360 Arcade model (that comes without any hard disk) could cost as little as USD 199 after the price cut.

The 60GB model could be priced at around $299. The Elite edition would be priced at $399.

Nintendo Wii is currently the cheapest current generation console in the market. It is priced at around USD 250.

The console continues to remain in shortage in the US market and it is unlikely that Nintendo would drop its price anytime soon.

There are only dumb and brutal shooter/action-games for the xbox 360. this console is not the slightest competitor for the wii that has a wider choices of games (yes dumb shooters too, but there are many more games). On top of that the xbox has only antiquated gamped controls.

This has been possibly verified by a picture of a major retailer’s pricing system. See http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=1618 for more details.
