Sony says no cut in Playstation 2 prices as Xbox 360 arrives

Their were rumors in the market sometime back that the entertainment giant Sony was planning for a massive cut in the prices of the current generation gaming console Sony PlayStation 2 when Microsoft launches their Xbox 360. However, the latest reports in says that Sony has no plans to do that. The head of Sony Computer Entertainment in the UK, Ray Maguire confirmed it while he was talking to the BBC News group.

Microsoft Xbox 360 is scheduled to launch during the holiday season around Christmas. That makes it the first entry into the next generation gaming consoles. Microsoft believes that the early bird advantage would give it the push, which would help them beat Sony at their own game. However, Sony has a massive fan following who would be willing to wait for Sony to enter the market.

Rumors claimed that Sony would lover the price of Sony PlayStation 2 to give some cheap competition to Microsoft when it launches its latest version of Xbox. The price was expected to drop to sub USD 100 but now they are just claimed to be false talk in the media. The company has already done some price cuts in the pasts and the likely time for such expected cuts was around late August or early September.

Instead, Sony is planning to keep promoting Sony Playstation Portable until the time they can get the Playstation 3 out.
