Sony PSP demand outstripping supplies

Sony entered the market of small screen gaming devices with their ultra cool Playstation Portable gaming device. The market was earlier dominated by Nintendo consoles, which has now become somewhat of an underdog with PSP entering the market. The company is yet to launch the Sony PSP in the European market and is facing the problem of extremely high demand from the market.

The retailers in Europe are expecting the launch of Sony PSP on September 1 and they expect it to be an instant hit. However, the demand is so much that they are already running out of the stocks they are expecting to have. Sources say that as many as 150,000 machines will be available in Britain on launch day. This is around double stocks of any such product ever made available for sale on the day of launch.

Still, if we look at the demand for the product in the market, the supplies would not last for long and Sony is expected to struggle to fulfill the extra requirement very soon. In fact, they had to delay the launch in Europe by almost a year because they are finding it hard to meet the demands in the other markets like Japan and USA.

Many retailers and large stores have already stopped taking pre-orders for the Sony PSP considering they will not have the stocks to fulfill them all on the launch day. This goes on to show that having a massively successful product is not good either… for the company and for the consumer. Software in comparison is a different story. And so is a web-based product. Technology sure is weird….
