Electronic Arts makes changes to Spore DRM

Spore was one of the most awaited games in the recent times.

When the game was launched, gamers were shocked by the DRM EA had put on the game CDs.

The customer could only install and activate the game three times. After that they had to make a call to the company to get permission to install it further.

There was a huge backlash and the company was criticized all around on the web.

EA has now realized that the policy was indeed a bad decision as it hurt the genuine customer of the game.

Frank Gibeau, EA Games Label president, said in a statement: “We’ve received complaints from a lot of customers who we recognize and respect. And while it’s easy to discount the noise from those who only want to post or transfer thousands of copies of the game on the Internet, I believe we need to adapt our policy to accommodate our legitimate consumers.”

He added: “We’re willing to evolve our policy to accommodate our consumers. But we’re hoping that everyone understands that DRM policy is essential to the economic structure we use to fund our games and as well as to the rights of people who create them.”

The company has further said that they would now increase the number of installs a customer can make.

They also plan to make it easier for the customer to requests for more installs if so required.
