Nintendo displays the controller for its Revolution gaming console

Both Microsoft and Sony have mostly hogged the limelight with their upcoming gaming consoles Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 respectively. However, the granddaddy of the gaming console genre Nintendo is also due to launch their Revolution gaming console sometime next year. And the company has just showcased the controller they are likely to ship with this gaming console.

What is interesting with this controller? It looks more like a remote control than a gaming console controller. It is a wireless unit and the Motion sensors on the controller translate its movements into game action. The company says that this technology would allow the gamers to use this unit as a virtual sword, baseball bat, or racket.

Nintendo is yet to reveal the specifications of their upcoming gaming console, which would have to compete with the Microsoft and Sony products. However, the company do say that with this new machine and the intuitively designed controller, they aimed at converting new users to gaming who were scared off by the fast pace of existing games.

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata spoke about this device: “Its intuitive form allows both experienced and new gamers to stand on the same starting line. If we can’t do that, we might as well stand back and watch the market die off.”
