Nintendo cuts prices of Nintendo DS in Europe

Japanese gaming company Nintendo has announced that they are going to cut the price of their portable handheld gaming device Nintendo DS by 10 percent across Europe from October 7. This news comes just a couple of weeks after Sony launched their Sony Playstation Portable in the European market.

The updated prices mean that the Nintendo DS would now be available at 89.99 pounds, 10 pounds less than its current retail price. In the euro zone countries, the device will be priced at 129 euros. In addition, the company would also be releasing the much-awaited virtual pet game Nintendogs.

A combined sale of the game with the DS device will be priced at 99 pounds or 149 euros. Nintendo has been the dominant players in the small screen gaming devices segment since a long time. However, the entry of Sony in this market has shaken things up and both the players are fighting each other to dominate the market.

While Nintendo is targeting the casual gamers of all ages, Sony is targeting a more professional and mature gaming audience with their hi-tech games.
