World of Warcraft now has 11.5 million subscribers

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed that their World of Warcraft game now has around 11.5 million subscribers around the world.

World of Warcraft continues to remain the most popular multiplayer online role-playing game in the world.

Blizzard recently launched Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack for this gaming title which has further increased the user interest in this PC game.

This expansion pack alone has sold more than 4 million copies in the world since its launch in November.

The game is playable on both Windows and Mac platform. Gamers are required to pay a monthly subscription fee to keep on playing it online.

Blizzard spoke about how they calculate the subscribers: “World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or canceled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees’ territories are defined along the same rules.”
