PlayStation 3 much cheaper to manufacture for Sony

Market research company iSuppli has revealed that manufacturing the PlayStation 3 gaming console is much cheaper for Sony.

The report said that PlayStation 3 game console now costs 35 percent less to manufacture.

iSuppli said that the components used to manufacture the current model of the PS3 cost USD 448.73.

The first edition of the console was costing the company USD 690.23.

These are all estimated figures but still shows that Sony is now likely to reach profitability on this console soon.

iSuppli added in its report: “The PS3 may be able to break even in 2009 with further hardware revisions”.

Sony has been making massive losses on this console as they decided to go with a Blu-Ray drive instead of a regular DVD drive.
