OnLive: Streaming videogames online?

OnLive is a new service in town which would soon be available in the US market.

The developers claim that this new service would enable gamers to play videogames online through streaming.

They would not be required to buy expensive gaming consoles or game discs.

Instead, the game content would be streamed online through a small cheap device connected to a television set.

They are aiming to launch this service before the end of the current year.

They are currently working on building a library of games that can be played on this service.

OnLive founder and chief executive Steve Perlman spoke about their service: “We’ve cleared the last remaining hurdle for the videogames industry: effective online distribution. By putting the value back into the games themselves and removing the reliance on expensive, short-lived hardware, we are dramatically shifting the economics of the industry.”

Their concept is getting support from some of the biggest names in the videogame industry: Ubisoft, Atari, Warner Brothers, and Electronic Arts.

OnLive engineer Ronn Brashear spoke about the launch of this service: “We will launch in the United States and move into other countries as fast as we can.”
