Doom the movie tops US Box Office
Doom, the Hollywood movie based on the popular game series had a dull opening at the US box office but still managed to top the charts. The movie debuted at the top with a modest $15.4 million earning as per estimates of the movie studios. It was followed by a list of movies, which provided Doom modest competition.
Some of the other movies in the top 10 of the US box office charts were Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and The Fog. The top 10 movies on the charts bought in just $71.3 million which is around 27% lower than the earnings last year. It has been a dull time in the Hollywood with no major blockbuster release.
This lack of competition should help Doom survive for a bit longer on the box office. The movie stars the famous WWE wrestler The Rock who has a few big movies to his credit. However, the charisma of the former wrestler is not going to help the movie, which has been labeled a disappointment by the media critics.
Movies based on the videogames have traditionally done not so well on the box office. Some of these popular movies were based on otherwise super hit game series like Resident Evil and the Tomb Raider.
