Electronic Arts to make games on ‘The Simpsons’ series
World’s largest videogame publisher Electronic Arts has gone into an agreement with the Twentieth Century Fox Television and Gracie Films. The deal is for a long-term agreement over development of multiple videogame version based on the hit television animated series over the next couple of years. However, the financial details of this agreement were not released to the media.
Electronic Arts said that first of these many games on the television series would be developed for the next generation gaming console, which means that it would be for the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 and perhaps the Nintendo Evolution. However, they have not released any prospective date or period for the launch.
The news helped the company improve their share prices in the market as they rose by around 8% at the news. Electronic Arts would be taking over from game publisher Vivendi Universal Interactive who currently held the rights for developing games on the television series. EA’s deal with Fox might result in more such collaborations on future products, which is good news for the end consumer as they can expect some more fun games from the company based on popular television series.
