Nokia N-Gage gaming platform shutting down next year

Apple has shown how mobile devices can be used for serious gaming.

Nokia tried the same with their N-Gage gaming platform but it did not work as well for them.

The company has now announced that the N-Gage gaming platform would be closed down next year.

They would not offer it any more on their new phones.

The aim is to get the customers to their recently launched OVI store which would include games.

Nokia is delivering most of their new phones with this store so customers get easy access to it.

The company said: As mobile gaming evolves and begins to encompass social gaming, we want to offer one store front with an even broader portfolio of games – games for everyone. It’s much more convenient to have one place to get all your mobile games, and this it what Ovi Store (https://store.ovi.com/games) provides. Mobile gaming is one of the most popular activities in the Ovi Store, with games being the #2 most downloaded category for premium content. And besides having all mobile games in one place, people can access other services like Mail, Maps, Music and many more via www.ovi.com.”
