Sony brings support for LocationFree wireless multimedia network to PSP

Sony has made their Playstation Portable device even more lucrative to the end consumer. The entertainment giant has just expanded support for its LocationFree wireless multimedia network into the Sony PSP. As a result, the PSP owners can now use LocationFree to stream TV programs or movies over a broadband Internet connection into the gaming device.

For users to get this functionality on their Sony PSP, they have to update to the latest Sony’s device management software, Firmware 2.5. Sony has provided this update for free and this can be transferred to the PSP either wirelessly or through a PC. After updating, PSP is linked with LocationFree to access video and audio content via Wi-Fi hot spots with broadband access.

Until now, this functionality was only available on certain models of Sony TV monitors or the company’s notebook PCs. With PSP supported, users can now view content stored within their LocationFree home networks in addition to the content hosted on the service by Sony. Randy Waynick, senior vice president for Sony Electronics had this to say about this new facility: “We know that the world of entertainment is no longer bound by the walls of the living room and that people want content when and wherever they may be.”

He added: “LocationFree and the PSP system together bring to life the ultimate portable entertainment center making location almost as obsolete as time.”

The Location free requires a base that you can find on the sony website. It is called a location free base and can be bought at a price of $300 dollars, making it possible to use and watch tv or surf the net almost 90% over the world! :)
