Electronic Arts enters music publishing market
Electronic Arts is the world’s largest publisher of videogames. They are the makers of some of the most popular games out there. In addition, most of these games come with fantastic soundtracks. As a result, now the company is planning to enter its own music-publishing venture and they have teamed up with Nettwerk Music Group. This new venture is called EA Recordings.
This venture would be a digital music distribution label that will bring EA’s catalogue of wholly owned musical compositions and remixes to digital service providers worldwide. This is a first for any gaming company and it would be delivering music clips from blockbuster EA games as ring tones, master tones or in .mp3 format to online download destinations.
Some of the targeting music stores for this service are Apple iTunes, MSN Music, Yahoo Music, AOL Music, Rhapsody and others. This further goes on to show the importance of online music distribution where people who purchase music from the internet have become a recognized audience. EA would hence become the first interactive entertainment company to sell its catalogue of music in digital download format via exclusive partnership with a leading music group.
